2022/23 HILLMAN’S MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AWARD SPEECH

Attending this year’s Conference is an opportunity I thank God for. I am truly honored to have been given the prestigious 2022/23 Hillman’s Medical Professional Award which included a scholarship to attend the KPA Annual Scientific Conference. This is an award given to the Master’s student in Paediatric and Child Health, University of Nairobi, who is voted by his/her peers as having demonstrated outstanding professional values in Year 1 of the Master’s Programme.

ETAT+ TRAINING FROM 17TH APRIL-20TH APRIL, 2023 FOR THE UNDERGRADUATES MBCHB YEAR 5 TERM 3 (Pre-service)

We held a 4-day ETAT+ (Emergency, Triage, Assessment and Treatment Plus admission care) Training at the University of Nairobi from 17th April to 20th April 2023.  ETAT+ , is taught to all doctors in training, during their 11-week rotation in Paediatrics and Child Health.

GENERIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE (GIC) TRAINING

On the 22nd to 24th March 2023,Twenty two pediatric residents were trained and qualified to be the new ETAT+ and newborn ETAT+ trainers. The postgraduates of UON have been key in scaling up sustainable ETAT + and Newborn ETAT + training of all the undergraduates who qualify from UON. They have done this since 2008, many of you have participated in the ETAT+ UON pre service training. Many thanks, we appreciate you.

Comprehensive Newborn Care Protocols launch during the World Prematurity Day at Pumwani Maternity Hospital

All countries have committed to reducing neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 deaths per 1000 live births by 2030. this sustainable development goal requires countries to transform the provision of newborn care, especially to the most vulnerable small and sick newborns.

NEWBORN ETAT+ TRAINING

A 5-day Newborn ETAT + Training integrating clinical pathways and procedures with the use of equipment.

(Incorporating the New WHO recommendations for the care of preterms)

At the University of Nairobi, Department of Pediatrics and Child Health.

32 participants including paediatricians, nurses, and program managers from all over the country are attending the ongoing training.

The trainers comprise experienced trainers who are alumni of Department of Pediatrics and Neonatal nurses from all over Kenya.
