Prof. Grace Irimu, a lecturer at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Nairobi has been recognized as one of influential Black colleagues in health and medicine by Lancet.
The recognition was announced in a tweet by The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health @LancetChildAdol
“We're sharing profiles of influential Black colleagues in health and medicine during #BlackHistoryMonth , and we want to highlight the tireless work of Grace Irimu to reduce Kenya's under-5 mortality rate @ProfIrimu,” the tweet said.
The Kenya Paediatric Association congratulated Prof. Irimu on the recognition, saying the association celebrates her.
“A big congratulation to Prof Grace Irimu for being recognized by Lancet as one of the most influential Black colleagues in health and medicine shared during this Black History Month, for her tireless work aimed at reducing Kenya’s under-5 mortality rate through ETAT+,” KPA said in the congratulatory message.
On her part, Prof. Irimu said she was really humbled and thanked all Kenyan frontline health workers, ETAT+ trainers and Ministry of Health leadership who have put a lot of effort in ensuring that newborns and children survive and thrive.
She said the ETAT+ trainers have influenced the healthcare in Kenya and beyond and that credit goes to them.
