CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE OF INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP AND MECOR PROGRAM AWARDEE

We celebrate the excellence of international travel scholarship travel and MECOR awardee Dr. Diana Marangu . She presented her case report on genetically confirmed cystic fibrosis in a kenyan infant at the international colloquium on Saturday 18th May 2024 at the American Thoracic Society Conference in San Diego.

BREASTFEEDING BOOTCAMP

Breastfeeding Bootcamp was described as a game charger, time to unlearn and learn new practices. Thanks to Rose Charities ,UON and Medinfo for sponsoring free whole day seminar. 175 health workers all cadres from all over Kenya attended the training that had experienced trainers

Breastfeeding Seminar, Saturday, 10th Feb 2024

Department of Paediatrics at University of Nairobi has organised a one day seminar on breastfeeding. The seminar will be held in the Lectures Theater 3 in the Faculty of Health Sciences KNH Campus. We shall that theory and practical sessions - thus limited slots. 
This targets health workers; specialists, clinicians, midwives, all nurses, nutritionists and programme managers.

PhD Thesis Defence For Dr Muthoni Ogola

Dr Muthoni Ogola , Paediatrician at Pumwani Maternity Hospital and a PhD student in  Department of Paediatrics ,University of Nairobi who this week successfully defended her PhD Thesis. As part of her PhD research Dr Muthoni developed a Neonatal Audit Tool and its implementation guide. The tool has already been adopted by several hospitals. Its a major breakthrough in NBU QI interventions. It was pleasant to be her supervisor alongside Dr Aluvaala and Prof Mike English . Whole team of ETAT+ trainers congratulations Dr Muthoni.

Dr. Marangu awarded four-year APTI fellowship

Dr. Diana Marangu is among ten outstanding early career scientists from nine African countries that have been awarded four-year fellowships that will build their capacity to conduct cutting-edge research in global health. The fellowships will be awarded through the African Postdoctoral Training Initiative (APTI) programme, which is implemented by the African Academy of Sciences in partnership with the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

2022/23 HILLMAN’S MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AWARD SPEECH

Attending this year’s Conference is an opportunity I thank God for. I am truly honored to have been given the prestigious 2022/23 Hillman’s Medical Professional Award which included a scholarship to attend the KPA Annual Scientific Conference. This is an award given to the Master’s student in Paediatric and Child Health, University of Nairobi, who is voted by his/her peers as having demonstrated outstanding professional values in Year 1 of the Master’s Programme.

ETAT+ TRAINING FROM 17TH APRIL-20TH APRIL, 2023 FOR THE UNDERGRADUATES MBCHB YEAR 5 TERM 3 (Pre-service)

We held a 4-day ETAT+ (Emergency, Triage, Assessment and Treatment Plus admission care) Training at the University of Nairobi from 17th April to 20th April 2023.  ETAT+ , is taught to all doctors in training, during their 11-week rotation in Paediatrics and Child Health.

GENERIC INSTRUCTOR COURSE (GIC) TRAINING

On the 22nd to 24th March 2023,Twenty two pediatric residents were trained and qualified to be the new ETAT+ and newborn ETAT+ trainers. The postgraduates of UON have been key in scaling up sustainable ETAT + and Newborn ETAT + training of all the undergraduates who qualify from UON. They have done this since 2008, many of you have participated in the ETAT+ UON pre service training. Many thanks, we appreciate you.
