Dr. Rashmi Kumar makes a presentation at the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care Society (WFICCS) conference in Seoul, Korea.

Dr. Rashmi Kumar was invited at the World Federation of Intensive and Critical Care Society (WFICCS) conference that was held in Seoul, Korea to give a talk.

Her talk was focused on ‘Challenges and Way Forward in PICU in LICs’.

Notable facts were that majority of deaths in Low Income Countries (LICs) occur due to preventable and treatable causes.

Although improvement in primary health care facilities have gradually been reducing mortality rates over the years, the percentage of population seeking medical care for common childhood illnesses like sepsis, pneumonia and diarrhea has been extremely low.

Because of limited trained human resources, family assisted monitoring may be a step towards early recognition and referral of critically ill children, for better outcomes.

A fellowship in Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care (PECC-Kenya) is being developed to transform care and outcomes of critically ill children in Sub-Saharan Africa through leadership in education, research, advocacy and effective global partnership.
